Everyone needs to take a moment every now and then, which is why we were excited when Jani Venter, our head honcho, recently discovered the ancient art of drawing mandalas for meditation.
Mandala means circle in Sanskrit and although it appears in a variety of religions, it’s a Hindu or Buddhist spiritual and ritual symbol which represents the universe.
Drawing geometric mandalas requires tools and bucket-loads of patience and although this is probably what one should aspire to, there’s nothing wrong with free-hand mandalas or speed-drawing if it makes you happy. And the best part of free-hand drawing, is that you don’t need to be a skilled artist. Mandala doodling is also called zentangling. Fun, right?
To inspire you, we created a Pinterest board with some pretty mandalas and zentangles. Enjoy! So next time you feel a little flustered or overwhelmed by the speed at which we move nowadays, take a deep breath and draw a mandala.
